40 Days for Life starts Sept. 28
To the editor:
A wonderful opportunity for people in the Fairfield area begins Sept. 28 and runs through Nov. 6. It is an event called 40 Days for Life. This is an international event ~ being held in over 300 cities nationwide and several foreign countries.
It is 40 days of prayer and fasting to put an end to abortion and to once again make the world a place that cherishes human life. Abortion has become the leading cause of death in the United States.
It has been brought to our attention that some people think if abortion is outlawed, child abuse will increase, and that children saved from abortion will suffer lives of abuse. If that were true, we should have had NO child abuse since 1973, because those who were successful in making abortion legal stated that every child now would be a “loved and wanted child.” On the contrary, what legalized abortion has done is caused a disrespect for human life ~ causing us to lose untold MILLIONS of citizens, caused unimaginable heartache, and has not eliminated child abuse. In fact, child abuse has increased, for when we do not respect life at its most innocent (in the womb), the next step on the slippery slope is not respecting the young child that has been born.
We’ve heard it said that no one wants an abortion. If that is true, let’s pray during these 40 Days that women realize they DO have a choice ~ they can find help at crisis pregnancy centers such as Heartland Pregnancy Center of Ottumwa or Cradle of Hope in Mount Pleasant or Choices Medical Clinic in Iowa City. These centers make no money off whatever choice the client makes. They are there simply to help in any way that is needed, and they do not charge for their services.
Join us in the lower level community meeting room of First National Bank from noon to 1 p.m. weekdays, beginning Sept. 28. Let us pray that every life that has been conceived will be allowed to experience life.
Our kick-off event will be Sept. 26 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Library. The video entitled “Changing Sides” will be shown, depicting Abby Johnson’s conversion from being a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic director to joining the pro-life cause. See you there!
