Students near goal to collect 500 pairs of shoes
Van Buren Community High School’s Rachel’s Challenge group and student council are about to pass their goal to collect 500 pairs of shoes for earthquake survivors in Haiti.
“We are now up to 442 pair of shoes,” e-mailed Kristen Marshall, the Rachel’s Challenge group advisor, Monday afternoon. “We are hoping to shatter our original goal of 500 pair.”
The high school students are working with students throughout the district to collect shoes through the Soles4Souls program. They set a goal to collect 500 shoes before Feb. 19, but are already very near that goal.
Several drop-off locations are set up around Van Buren County so community members also can donate.
