Absentee voting begins
Election Day is nearing and absentee voting in Iowa starts Thursday.
Ballots will be available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Nov. 7 at the Jefferson County Auditor’s office, on the first floor of the courthouse.
The auditor’s office will also be open until 5 p.m. Nov. 4, as well as until 5 p.m. Oct. 29 and Nov. 5., which are the two Saturdays before the Nov. 8 General Election.
Those choosing to vote early can either do so at the auditor’s office from Thursday until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7., which is the deadline for in-office absentee voting.
Absentee voters who decide not to vote in the office, should either download an absentee ballot request form at the Iowa Secretary of State website at www.sos.iow.gov or pick one up at the county auditors office. However, according to state law, the auditor’s office must mail the ballot to the resident.
Absentee ballot request forms can be mailed to: Jefferson County Auditor, 51 E. Briggs Ave., Ste 2, Fairfield 52556. Requests must be received by 5 p.m. Nov. 4.
