Activities set for IHCC HomecomingRace has new look this year
OTTUMWA — Events for students, retired employees and community members as well as alumni will be included in Indian Hills Community College’s annual Homecoming celebration slated for Monday through Oct. 5.
Activities, such as a dance, casino night and the crowning of the homecoming king and queen, are planned for students and staff. The king and queen will be voted on by everyone at the college, with the coronation at noon Oct. 2.
That evening, a Glow Run 5K race/walk on will be held on campus, with the proceeds used for student scholarships.
A reception for alumni who attended Centerville Junior College, Centerville Community College or Indian Hills Community College is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Hotel Continental in Centerville.
The week will conclude with a host of activities Oct. 5, starting with IHCC representation in the annual Ottumwa Oktoberfest parade in the morning. On the Ottumwa campus that afternoon there will be a car show from noon to 4 p.m., a free children’s craft fair from 1-3 p.m., a pinewood derby for the first 50 kids to enter, a piston toss and the Iowa Army National Guard’s rock climbing wall.

Race has new look this year
OTTUMWA — The annual Indian Hills Community College Homecoming 5K race and 2-mile walk will take on a new look this year as a Glow Run.
The event, which raises funds for student scholarships at IHCC, will be held Oct. 2. The course is located on the Indian Hills’ Ottumwa campus and is very spectator-friendly.
The 5K run and 2-mile walk will start at 7:15 p.m. Packets will be available after 4:30 p.m. that day in the west parking lot of the Advanced Technology Center. The race also will feature a best costume contest, where the top three costumes will be awarded $25 gift cards.
Race awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners in the traditional age groups: 14 and under; 15 to 18; 19 to 29; 30 to 39; 40 to 49; and 50 to 59. Two awards also will be available for those 60 to 69 and for participants 70 and older. The top male and female overall will receive $50 gift certificates.
The registration form for the run and walk is available on the IHCC website at www.indianhills.edu/5KRun. The entry fee for the race is $25. All Glow Run participants will receive a T-shirt and free glow items to wear during the race.
