All-SEC soccer teams released
The Fairfield boys’ soccer team has landed four players on the 2013 All-Southeast Conference soccer team, and two other Trojans have been named to the girls’ squad.
The Trojans boys, who tied for first place atop the Southeast Conference this season, are represented by first-team senior selections Roan Bachar, Nathan Barker and Mason Carnahan as well as junior Austin Lauderman. Barker is a three-time selection to the team, and Bachar, who led all of Class 2A with 29 goals, makes his second straight all-conference appearance. Carnahan and Lauderman are both first-time selections.
On the girls’ team, juniors Claudia Sloat and Brandi Rude both represent Fairfield for the first time. Sloat led the Trojan offense with 14 goals scored, and Rude was often praised by coach Michiel Hekker for her outstanding defense.
Honorable mention went to senior Kayla Septer and junior Erica Winslow for the Fairfield girls and senior Darrin Dimmitt and junior Nathan Haerr for the Fairfield boys.
Mount Pleasant had the player of the year on both teams. Holly Long was the girls’ selection and Bo Vitale headlined the boys’ team.
Additionally, Fairfield tied with Mount Pleasant for most all-academic selections, landing 18.
The girls’ squad had 12 on the list, including seniors Michaela Anderson, Kaitlyn Daugherty, Nohema Graber, Sarah Morgan and Septer. Juniors Elaine Brandt, Joanna Funkhouser, Huma Liptak, Alyssa Murphy, Keri Schwarz, Sloat and Winslow were selected, as well.
