AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 47 recently held their last 2012 meeting at the VFW Hall to review activities of the past two months and do business needed prior to the next meeting. Darlene Vorhies, secretary, opened the meeting with a prayer, Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and the Auxiliary Preamble.
A thank-you note was sent to Lane Bush for including Jenna Nelson in the Veterans Day program; Nelson was the auxiliary attendee to Girls State last June. Money will be sent for the Fairfield High School junior who will be chosen to attend the 2013 Girls State.
A sympathy card was mailed from the auxiliary to Roger Frakes, whose wife recently passed away. The Frakes have assisted the auxiliary with Poppy Days distribution for several years.
Money has again been sent for veterans needs at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, and several thousands of dollars worth of coupons were sent to be used at commissaries by veterans and their families stationed in other countries.
Treasurer Shirley Kitch reported ordering 1,000 poppies for distribution in May and sharing in the expense of the Veterans Day Avenue of Flags listing in The Fairfield Ledger.
The next meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary in Fairfield will be Jan. 17.
Anyone wishing further information about the auxiliary or the meeting can contact Vorhies at 472-4449 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
