Annual cancer cruise planned May 31

May 02, 2014

The second annual Cruise for the Cause, a fund-raising event for cancer research, is set May 31.

This year, organizer Amy Johnson has planned a cruise to Dubuque for a day at the Tabor Home Vineyards and Winery, Star Brewery Building and supper at Shot Tower Pizza.

“If there is enough interest, we can reserve a tour of the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium,” said Johnson, pointing out Dubuque also has shopping, Fenelon Place elevator and other unique places to visit.

Johnson said if any cruisers would like to stay overnight in Dubuque, they should let her know and she can try to reserve a block of rooms.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the cruise. Cruisers can drive their collector cars, everyday vehicles or motorcycles.

Participants will meet in the Jefferson County Health Center’s front parking lot at 9 a.m. May 31. In the event of rain, the cruise will be postponed to June 28.

Each vehicle will donate $20 to benefit the American Cancer Society, Jefferson County Relay for Life and the Kommen Foundation. The first 20 entries receive a free dash plaque.

For information and registration, call Johnson at 233-7955 as soon as possible so reservations can be made for any tours or hotel rooms.

The 2014 Jefferson County Relay for Life is scheduled for Sept. 27.
