Fairfield Iowa Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director Rustin Lippincott, above, gave his annual report to the Fairfield City Council Monday. He told the council tourism is big business in town, producing more than $38 million in revenue in the county and employing 300 people in Fairfield alone. He said tourism revenue increased 14.2 percent this year in the county, even higher than the statewide increase of 5.6 percent. Not surprisingly, the city’s hotel and motel tax generated more than $130,000 in fiscal year 2013, which was a 12.3 percent increase from fiscal year 2012. City councilor Michael Halley, below at right, congratulated Lippincott on his work with the visitors bureau. Also pictured in the photo is councilor Tony Hammes.
