Art association offers credited class
The Fairfield Art Association, through Great Prairie Area Education Agency, announces a “Painting_Layering Up” class instructed by John Preston and Kella Tschopp from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 8-12.
Visual-art instructors/teachers at all levels of education can choose to receive one AEA recertification credit ($80) or one Drake or Viterbo graduate credit ($160). The class also can be taken for audit ($80) by anyone interested in taking the class.
The course will explore the layering of painting medium techniques using gray and color values with transparency and opacity. Participants will create compositional unity using multiple mediums, to attain a unique visual, which is not obvious as mixed-media artwork.
Theory and practice will emphasize creating depth of space with hard and soft edge value contrasts, selecting suitable surface, appropriate mediums and sequence of application. The unity of the layering up technique painted composition is to enhance expressive skills.
For art educators, it is an exploration of painting strategy that can be integrated into visual art learning disciplines to increase student learning. For the practicing artist, these are valuable techniques to include in creating art.
Classes will work in the Fairfield Art Association Studio in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and at designated locations out of doors.
Participants will be responsible for bringing supplies listed on a link of the registration page online.
To register for the class, participants must enroll before June 24 at www.gpaea.k12.ia.us. Click on Course Catalog and enter Painting_LayeringUp as the course title to register.
Class size is limited to 15.
