Art association opens membership show

The Fairfield Art Association announces its 46th annual Membership Show opens with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Main Gallery of the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

In addition to the Membership Show, a special student exhibit of artworks by Kara Greiner will be in the Fairfield Art Association Studio during the Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk evening. Greiner is a talented Fairfield High School student who has been helping with Kella J.’s art classes at the art association’s studio.

For 46 years, the art association has held an annual exhibit to showcase the works of its members. Artists are invited to submit up to three original artworks, and this year 20 artists will be represented. Viewers will find a wide selection of media and range of talent in the 48 pieces presented.

Several artists are students taking art association classes in pastel and watercolor, while others are art teachers or “professional artists.” The exhibit includes works in acrylic, ink, ceramic, pencil, oil, mixed, photography, oil pastel, watercolor, pastel, and new this year an entry of 1,000 digital computer generated paintings. The digital work will be presented by way of a small photo screen.

Another special entry is the handmade sketch books by John Preston, full of his detailed sketches for his paintings.

Artists this year include: Steve Tiffany, Laura Weinberg, Elaine Duncan, David Kraemer, Robert Herron, Eileen Hawthorne, Catty Miller Hancock, Kella J. Tschopp, Phil Hirschler, Sandi Dimmitt, BJ Grimmer, Jeri Schatz Giddens, Sarah Baron, Grace White, Rosemary Lucente, Julie Johnston, Suzan Bates Kessel, John Preston, Carroll Michalek and Nan White.

Most of the artworks on display are for sale by the artists, with 30 percent of any sale going to the Fairfield Art Association to support the organization and its projects. The show will remain in the gallery through Dec. 31 and can be viewed during the center’s business hours or during events.

Anyone can join the Fairfield Art Association any time of year. Several different membership categories are available including: Active Artist for $20, or Student, Individual, Family, Friend, Business, Patron and Benefactor. Membership forms can be picked up at the association’s studio or found on the website www.fairfieldartassociation.org. Extra benefits for membership include reduced class fees, use of professional mat cutter in the studio, selling work in the Sales Gallery and more.
