ART WALK: Blues & BBQ
Owen Baldridge of Fairfield takes a few more bites before walking away from the Squeal Good BBQ “Big Beast” contest Friday night during the Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk Blues & BBQ. At 15 years of age, Baldridge was the youngest contestant to try to finish the 4-pound sandwich made with slices of pork loin, chopped brisket, a full pound cheese burger, sliced brisket, pulled pork and burnt ends layered with bacon and barbecue sauce on a half-pound homemade bun. None of the contestants were able to finish his sandwich in the 30 minute time limit, or even in the extra 15 minutes Squeal Good BBQ owner and pit master Ryan Reinier gave them. Reinier said this was the third time the challenge has been held. Only two have finished their sandwiches — record holder John Sneiderman of Fairfield in 17 minutes, and Tommy Bower of Fairfield who took the whole 30 minutes.
