Art walk celebrates artisans
Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk presents the third annual “Artisan Pair on the Square” from 5-9 p.m. Friday.
Artists and artisans will be paired with local businesses and galleries around Fairfield’s historical downtown square for an annual gallery crawl and opportunity to purchase gifts for the holidays. Art walkers can enjoy a submerged experience of Fairfield’s businesses, galleries and art venues in the Cultural District on the square.
Artisan Pair on the Square, a self-guided tour of galleries and shops hosting local artisans and/or their work, is a snapshot of Fairfield’s thriving art scene with a focus on the visual arts and artisan crafts. It’s an opportunity for all art venues and businesses to come alive with art lovers and anyone interested in investigating, appreciating and celebrating local art.
New this year, featured artists for the November art walk each will enter one piece of artwork priced at $100 in a raffle Friday evening. The winner will choose one from among the many pieces. Raffle entries can be submitted at any of the galleries or businesses featuring an artist on the evening of art walk.
Artists are scheduled to be at: Americus Diamond, Art 52, the art walk display window, At Home, Blue Fish, Central Park Futon, Chocolate Café, Church of the Holy Spirit, Crest Jewel, Earth & Water, Fairfield Art Association, Fairfield Nutrition, Flair Vintage Décor, Flying Leap Gallery, Finnywicks, Gallery 56, The Gardens, Green Building Supply, Health & Wholeness, Henderson’s Framing/Gallery, Hurlin Gallery/Ancient Tiimes, ICON Gallery, ILA, Infinate OM, Kim’s Kottage, Morning Star Studio, Orpheus Theater, Revelations and Stacy Hurlin’s Design Studio.
Besides the exhibits, entertainment will include local band Van & the Movers performing from 7-9:30 p.m. at Josie Hannes Design.
Music video contest winner
Jefferson County Green Band was announced as winner of the music video contest. The drawing was held in September. Bands and musical groups donated their time and talent at summer art walk events to be entered into a lottery to win a free $10,000 music video created by Hawthorne Direct, a long-time supporter of art walk.
“Hawthorne Direct is happy to support regional talent and art walk in a creative and unique way,” said Tim Hawthorne, Hawthorne Direct founder/CEO and vice president of the Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk Board of Directors.
Hawthorne said this opportunity benefits both groups: art walk wasable to keep expenses at a minimum, and artists had a chance at winning a professionally produced music video.
Hawthorne Direct, the nationally known TV ad agency with studios in Fairfield and LA, has all the equipment and talent to create a music video that would normally cost musicians at least $10,000 to create. Hawthorne said the contest was an opportunity for musicians to receive something back for donating their time to perform at an art walk.
