Art walk set to ‘chase away the blues’ Friday
The first Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk of 2014 will be Friday evening, with the theme “Chase away the Blues.”
The art walk opens at 5 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m. at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, with workshops and exhibits from 6-8 p.m., live music by The Quay Thomas Band from 7-9 p.m. in the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts, and galleries and businesses throughout town open from 5-9 p.m.
The event marks the Quay Thomas Band’s final Iowa performance before band members return to college following the winter break. Band members attend colleges in Massachusetts, Ohio, Iowa, and Kansas and study in fields of music performance, ministry, pre-medicine and sports performance.
Local favorite, songwriter and performer Quay Thomas, plays lead guitar and vocals, with Sean Miller on bass guitar, Ryan Seitstra on rhythm guitar and backup vocals, Charlie Chhouy on rhythm and lead guitar and Daniel Langenfeld on drums.
The band will perform original works by Quay Thomas as well as a few rock and blues classics uniquely arranged by Quay and the band, complete with rockin’ guitar riffs and rollin’ drums.
