Attorney sues Iowa panel for rejecting casino
CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) — Former Linn County Attorney Eugene Kopecky has sued the Iowa Racing Gaming Commission over its rejection of the proposed Cedar Rapids casino.
Kopecky says he wants a court to force the commission to reconsider its decision and approve a license.
On April 17 the commission rejected the $164 million proposal, saying it would harm existing casinos. But Kopecky says the commission doesn’t have authority to refuse to issue a license in one county because the new casino might harm a casino in another county.
