Author to speak about impact of her mother’s mental illness
Author Cate Grace will speak at 7:45 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Fairfield Public Library meeting room as part of the Hope for Life and Fairfield Mental Health Alliance author series.
Grace is the author of “Collateral Damage: The impacts of my mother’s mental illness on me.”
According to organizers, the book is poignant, absorbing and thought-provoking ... The powerful true story of a child who grew up with a demanding and destructive intruder in her home: her mother’s mental illness.
Organizers say the book is an important “must-read” for anyone wishing to understand the often devastating effects of parental mental illness on children. Grace uses evocative imagery to transport her audience to her childhood, allowing them to understand the impacts of her mother’s severe mental illness on her, and is a story that needs to be told and re-told in the context of how children with a parent with severe mental illness, including grown-up children, are supported.
Refreshments will be served.
