Awards banquet tickets available
The 2013 annual awards banquet hosted by Fairfield Entrepreneur Association, Fairfield Volunteer Center and Fairfield First! is set for the evening of Dec. 12 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.
Drinks and desserts will begin at 7 p.m., featuring desserts from Fairfield restaurants: Yummy’s Gourmet Cakes, Revelations Cafe, At Home Store, Chocolate Cafe, The Burning Oak, Binghimon’s Caribbean Cafe, and Chief Appanoose Popcorn, also.
The award presentations is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Awards will include Entrepreneur of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, the Fairfield First Award and the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame. The hall of fame portrait of U.S. Sen. James “Jefferson Jim” Wilson will be unveiled.
James Falconer Wilson was born Oct. 19, 1828, in Newark, Ohio. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1851. He practiced in Newark until 1853, then moved to Fairfield to practice law. He was a U.S. Congressman from Iowa’s 1st congressional district during the American Civil War and a two-term U.S. senator from Iowa. He was a pioneer in the advancement of federal protection for civil rights, and he played an important role in the formation of the Iowa Republican Party. Wilson died April 22, 1895, in Fairfield and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Entertainment at the awards banquet throughout the evening will be provided by Tim Britton.
