Barbara Geving, 88, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota.
A private graveside service was at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Geving was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Fairfield, daughter of Thomas and Norene Staves. She married Robert Geving Aug. 2, 1953. They divorced in 1959.
She graduated from Fairfield High School. She attended Parsons College and was homecoming queen in 1948. She graduated from University of Iowa with degrees in English and music in 1951. She attended graduate school at University of Colorado at Boulder.
Mrs. Geving taught English in several school districts in Iowa. In 1966, she moved from Des Moines to Washington, D.C. She began a 20-year career with the U.S. Treasury Department. She moved to Bemidji, Minnesota, in 1998 to be with her daughter.
Mrs. Geving played the piano many Thursday mornings at the Bemidji hospital. When she moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 2015, she played the grand pianos at Mayo Clinic every week.
Survivors include: daughter, Frances Van Dorn of Bemidji; two granddaughters; and brother Harold Staves of Tucson, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by: sister, Eleanor; and brother, Gregory.
