Baumann named to all-state roster
Fairfield senior Sidney Baumann has been called one of the top basketball players in the Southeast Conference and in all of her district.
Now, Baumann has validation she’s one of the best players in the entire state.
The 5-foot-7 senior guard was named to the 2013 Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association Class 4A All-State Third Team this week, adding a state-wide honor to her already stacked list of postseason accolades. Baumann was selected to the all-SEC first team and the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association’s Class 4A All-Southeast District Team last week.
Leading the Trojans with a conference-high 17.6 points per contest this winter, Baumann proved to be one of the deadliest scorers in the state by season’s end. She ranked third in Class 4A in total points with 423, and she was fifth in the class in 3-pointers made with 54. After averaging 12.9 points per game in eight 2012 games, Baumann turned it on to tally 20.4 points per contest over the final two months of the regular season.
Baumann’s late-season eruption continued into the postseason, where she scored a combined 51 points in the Trojans’ two regional upset wins over Mount Pleasant and Oskaloosa, respectively. Her efforts helped Fairfield claim its first postseason wins since 2007 and reach its first regional final game since 2006.
