Blood drive events scheduled

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has scheduled area several blood drive events.

Lockridge Fire and Rescue will host a commuity blood drive from 3:30-7 p.m. April 15 at the Lockridge Senior Citizen Center. Donors who last gave blood on or before Feb. 18 will be eligible to give again. For appointments, call Joanna Millard at 319-931-2455.

A community blood drive is set from 4-7 p.m. April 16 at the Keosauqua Senior Center. Donors who last gave blood on or before Feb. 19 will be eligible to give again. For appointments, call the Ottumwa Telerecruitment Department at 800-452-1097 or visit the website www.bloodcenterimpact.org.

A community blood drive is set from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 18 at the Jefferson County Health Center. Those who last gave blood on or before Feb. 21 will be eligible to give again. For appointments, call the Ottumwa Telerecruitment Department at 800-452-1097 or visit the website www.bloodcenterimpact.org.

St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield will host a community blood drive from 2:30-6:30 p.m. April 21 in its parish hall. Donors who last donated on or before Feb. 24 will be eligible to donate again. For appointments, call Marianne McGregor at 469-3241.

Prairie View United Methodist Church, near the intersection of Packwood Road and Highway 78, will host a communty blood drive from 2:30-7 p.m. April 21 in its fellowship hall. Donors who last gave blood on or before Feb. 24 will be eligible to give again. For appointments, call the blood center at 800-452-1097 or visit the website www.bloodcenterimpact.org.

Eligible donors must be at least 17 years of age — or 16 with a signed parental permission form available at www.bloodcenter.org — and weigh more than 110 pounds. A person with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as an eligible donor.

A photo identification or Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center donor card is required to donate.

According to blood center officials, blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45-60 minutes.

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 87 hospitals in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. It is the exclusive provider to Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield and the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
