Blood drives in Batavia, Birmingham
The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has scheduled two area blood drives.
A blood drive is set from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Batavia Community Senior Center. Donors who last gave blood on or before July 2 are eligible to give again. Walk-in donors are welcome, but for appointments, call 800-452-1097 or visit the website www.bloodcenterimpact.org.
The Birmingham Lions Club will host a blood drive from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Birmingham Lions building. Donors who last gave blood on or before July 4 are eligible to give again. Walk-in donors are welcome, but those who would like an appointment can call Harry Anderson at 319-498-4201.
Potential donors must be 17 years old — 16 with a parental permission form available on the website — and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo identification or Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center donor card is required to donate. People with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as eligible donors.
According to blood center officials, blood donation is a safe and simple procedure that takes about 45 to 60 minutes.
Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 87 hospitals in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. It is the exclusive provider to both Jefferson County Health Center and Van Buren County Hospital.
