Blood drives scheduled in Fairfield

Two Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center blood drives are planned in Fairfield.

The first will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.

Donors who last gave blood on or before May 20 will be eligible to give again.

The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center will host a blood drive from 3-6:30 p.m. July 23.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years old — 16 with a signed parental permission form available at www.bloodcenter.org — weigh more than 110 pounds and have a photo I.D. or Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center donor card. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as eligible donors.

According to blood center officials, blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes 45-60 minutes.

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 87 hospitals in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. It is the exclusive provider to Jefferson County Health Center and Van Buren County Hospital.
