Blood drives scheduled

Two blood drives for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center are planned in Fairfield.

Jefferson County AM will host a community blood drive from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Jefferson County Health Center’s conference room.

Donors who last gave blood on or before Aug. 12 are eligible to give at the drive.

For appointments to donate, contact the blood center at 800-452-1097 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5031 to locate the drive.

Jefferson County PM will host a community blood drive from 2-7 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.

Donors who last gave blood on or before Aug. 16 are eligible to give at this drive.

For appointments to donate, contact the blood center at 800-452-1097 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5032.

Potential blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, although a 16-year-old can donate with a completed parental permission form available at www.bloodcenter.org. Donors must weigh more than 110 pounds. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as eligible donors. A photo I.D. is required to donate.

According to blood center personnel, blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 90 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. It is the exclusive provider to Jefferson County Health Center.
