‘Blues & BBQ’ at art walk
Great music and great food are lined up for the traditional August “Blues & BBQ” Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk from 6-10:30 p.m. Friday on and near the Fairfield square.
Music begins at 6 p.m. in the Ron Prill Bandstand in Central Park, with Blue Cat Alley playing until 7:30 p.m.
Then, Bob Dorr and the Blues Band will perform their blues music from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at the bandstand.
Blind judging for a barbecue contest is set from 6-6:30 p.m. Space will be open for anyone interested in participating.
The contest will have three categories: Best Pulled Pork; Best Chicken; and Best Beef.
After the judging is completed, art walkers can visit the barbecue vendors and restaurants and vote for the “Fan Favorite.” Votes can be cast for 25-cents each at the art walk information tent in Central Park.
Results of the blind judging will be made following the judging, and the Fan Favorite will be announced at the end of the evening. The winners of both the contests will receive a monetary prize.
Squeal Good BBQ will have a “BBQ Beast” contest at 6 p.m. on the square.
Up to eight contestants will be given 30 minutes to consume a 4-pound “everything” sandwich. If they make it in time, the contestants will have their $20 entry fee returned and receive a Squeal Good BBQ T-shirt.
To enter the BBQ Beast contest, call 233-8820.
In addition, food vendors, artists, area nonprofit organizations and children’s activities will be happening and showcased throughout the evening.
A special demonstration by the Fairfield School of Aikido will be 7-8 p.m. in the children’s corner of Central Park.
Art walk board member Maddie Gremillion will pose another question on the special art walk “Chalk Board” by the art walk information tent. Local businesses, restaurants and galleries will present a wide array of art, food and the social interaction that help make the art walk and other Fairfield events unique. A scavenger hunt is planned throughout the businesses during the art walk.
