Book sale raising funds for library
Friends of Fairfield Public Library will hold its bi-annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the meeting room at the Fairfield Public Library.
Friends also will offer a members-only early bird preview from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday. Annual membership dues are $10 for individuals and $25 for families. New members can register at the door.
“It’s a nice way to help the library for a small amount,” said Sue Lind, president of Friends of the Fairfield Public Library
Lind explained most of the library’s budget is spent on books and overhead expenses, so the Friends help out by funding some of the extra things the library wants and needs that are above the budget.
Last year, Friends helped fund the Mad Science Night with more than 500 people attending, display monitors, Seed Savers exchange, author events, educational family programs, and the Summer Reading program.
Annual dues for an individual membership are $10, and there also are memberships for couples and families.
Most of the books offered for sale have been donated. People who would like to donate books can drop them off at the library.
According to the Fairfield Volunteer Center, Friends of the Fairfield Public Library is looking for volunteers to help with the book sale.
Four volunteers are needed to work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to help get ready for the sale by setting up tables, posting signs, and hauling boxes of books on carts from the library storage room and arranging them on the tables.
One volunteers is needed to assist with the members-only early-bird sale at from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday.
Two volunteers per shift are needed to assist at the sale Saturday. The shifts will be 9-11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. The volunteers will help by moving books and empty boxes out of the way.
Then Sunday, two volunteers per shift are needed to repack and stack books and boxes and flatten and stack empty boxes. The shifts will be 1-4 p.m. and 2-4 p.m.
