Bowlers beat Washington at home

Trojans earn first wins of the season
By ALLYUS FRITZ/Ledger sports editor | Jan 14, 2014

The Fairfield bowling team is now in the win column after a solid day on the lanes Saturday against Washington.

The Trojan varsity boys won 2628-1999 and the varsity girls won 2250-2094 in Fairfield’s first home meet of the season. The JV girls also won, delivering a 2019-1367 victory. Washington does not have a JV boys’ team, but the JV boys did bowl at the competition.

“Our bowlers really concentrated this past week on working on their fundamentals of focus and balance,” Fairfield bowling coach Lisa Greenig said. “I’m pleased with the improvement of the meet scores.”

Cody Craff led the boys with a 210 in his first game and an overall 388 in round one. Wyatt Stark came up huge as well with a round one 351. The boys had a significant lead after round one and only increased it during the round two baker. It should be noted that Washington only had five bowlers on the boys’ side, not six.

The Fairfield girls were led by Sara Trent, who bowled a game one 196 and an overall round one 360. Jami Nelson and Shannon Morrissey both bowled over 300 in round one as well.

Fairfield travels to Oskaloosa Saturday.
