Bridge closure will impede travel from Brighton to Washington
Two bridge replacements on Highway 1 will close the highway between Brighton and Washington, Iowa, during construction for an estimated two years, anticipated to start in 2016.
A deadline for public input about the projects is Monday. Public comments can be made online at www.iowadot.gov.pim or call 515-239-1251.
A note at the website says all correspondence received after Monday’s deadline will be included in the project’s files and reviewed as the project develops.
A designated detour would use Iowa 92, Washington County roads W-55 and W-47 and Iowa 78, adding five miles to the drive.
One of the bridges crosses Skunk River, the other is over West Fork Crooked Creek.
The project contact is Jason Huddle at the District 5 Office in Fairfield, email Jason.Huddle@dot.iowa.gov.
