Businesses invited to participate in annual annual trunk-or-treat at county fairgrounds
Jefferson County 4-H, the Greater Jefferson County Fair Board and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Jefferson County are extending an invitation for local businesses to participate in the annual trunk-or-treat event; deadline to show an interest is Monday.
Trunk or treat will be 3-6 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
For the past five years, Jefferson County 4-H, the Greater Jefferson County Fair Board and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Jefferson County have sponsored the community Halloween event.
Businesses and the local 4-H clubs line up their vehicles and stock trailers and invite children from the entire Jefferson County community to stroll from trunk-to-trunk collecting goodies, treats and playing games in celebration of Halloween.
“It is a safe event for the children of the county,” said Rachel Wonderlich, county youth coordinator.
Businesses who participate are invited to dress up in their favorite costume, decorate a car trunk, box truck or stock trailer in a Halloween theme and hand out treats.
Last year, more than 500 children and their families walked from car-to-car collecting candy and playing games.
“We are anticipating great numbers again this year and can’t thank our community partners enough for helping us pull of such a grand event,” said Wonderlich.
