Candidate forum scheduled Tuesday evening at library
Three candidates for two Jefferson County supervisor seats in November’s election have agreed to participate in a candidate forum hosted by the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield Public Library.
The approximately 75-minute forum features Republican incumbents Steve Burgmeier, a local farmer, and Lee Dimmitt, a local service businessman and Democratic challenger Becky Schmitz, a social worker and former Iowa state senator. The third Jefferson County supervisor seat, held by Republican Dick Reed, is not up for election.
“The chamber is pleased to provide a candidate forum for our business members and the voters of our area communities to educate themselves on the candidates’ views about issues impacting our immediate area,” said Nancy Morrissey, chamber executive director. “While the chamber does not endorse candidates, we do believe in the principles of good government.
“It is very important that voters know where candidates stand on issues impacting Jefferson County.”
Each candidate will have three minutes for an opening statement.
Morrissey will moderate, asking the candidates a series of questions.
Each candidate will be allowed a three-minute closing statement.
Seating will be on a first come, first-seated basis. The forum is free and open to the public. Audience participation is not scheduled during the forum.
