Cardinal baseball tops Notre Dame for third straight win
ELDON — The Cardinal baseball team picked up its third straight win Tuesday, blasting West Burlington/Notre Dame 9-1 in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South showdown in Eldon.
Junior Conner McElderry pitched six innings of one-run ball for the Comets, who improved to 5-2 overall with the win. McElderry allowed six hits and one walk while striking out four batters. Brennon Elder, another junior, pitched one inning of relief, allowing no runs on one hit.
The Comets collected 10 hits and scored in every inning, building a 4-1 lead after three innings and plating five more runs in the final three. McElderry was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Cody Streeby went 2-for-3 with one run batted in. Charlie Rachford finished with two hits, two runs and four steals.
Also for Cardinal, Dakota Showman plated three runs, and Cole Campbell and Quinn Honomichl scored once. Brandon Eklofe, Dustin Miller and Tyler Albert collected one hit apiece.
Next up for Cardinal is a rivalry game at Pekin (3-5) Thursday.
