Cardinal boys finish runner-up in SEISC South
WEST BURLINGTON — Cardinal won a pair of events and grabbed points in nearly every other event en route to a second-place finish and 112-point total at the Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division track meet scheduled Monday.
The host Falcons won the meet title for the second year running, earning wins in 12 of the 18 events and setting conference records in two of those in front of a partisan crowd at Bill Nelson Field in West Burlington. Van Buren placed third with 81.5 points and Maharishi finished eighth with three.
The Comets received wins from the shuttle hurdle relay team of Jonathan Pedersen, Tyler Albert, Neil Urtado and Charlie Rachford (1:03.52) as well as Rachford in the long jump (20’ 0.25”).
The runner-up team also had second-place finishes from Ryan Cale in the 3200 (11:41), Albert in the 110-meter hurdles (16.28) and a trio of relays. Cole Campbell, Cody Carter, Nathan Yeager and Rachford finished second in the 4x100 (48.01); Blake Wright, Yeager, Carter and Campbell were second in the 4x200 (1:38.39); and Quinn Honomichl, Campbell, Albert and Wright were runner-up in the 4x400 (3:49).
For Van Buren, freshman Dalton Haynes won the 3200 (11:29); and the 4x800 team of Brayden Starnes, Cole Wyatt, Thomas Fitzsimmons and Garrett Saunders finished first (8:45).
Saunders was second in the 400-hurdles (1:01.08) and Starnes claimed second place in the open-800 (2:09.25). Vaughn Helling, Sam Dickinson, Sheldon Dewitt and Jordan Baker also came in second in the distance medley (4:04.75).
