Cardinal boys tack on two wins
The Cardinal baseball team upped its record to 9-4 with a pair of wins Monday and Tuesday.
The Comets blasted Holy Trinity 10-1 Monday in Fort Madison and stretched their winning streak to two games Tuesday with a 4-2 victory over New London.
In their nine-run win Monday, Cardinal received a home run and two RBI from Conner McElderry and a double and two RBI from Kyle Kent. Cody Streeby hit a double and knocked in two runs, and Chase Courtney also legged out a double.
Starter Taylor Blunt improved to 2-0 with the win, throwing seven innings and allowing no earned runs. Holy Trinity managed just five hits off the sophomore as Blunt struck out four.
“This was a good way to start the week. We have a lot of games this week, and we need to take care of business when we can,” said Cardinal head coach Tom Hallgren. “Taylor pitched well tonight, and we were able to get him some good run support.”
Against New London, Streeby and McElderry each had two hits. Both Comet hitters supplied one RBI, and Brandon Eklofe also knocked in a run.
Brennon Elder won his second game of the season, throwing six innings of two-run ball and fanning 10.
Cardinal (9-4, 6-1 SEISC South) plays at West Burlington on Thursday.
