WAYLAND — It may have taken half a season, but Cardinal’s wrestling team finally grabbed its first win Tuesday in Wayland.
The Comets, who are currently 1-11 on the season, topped host WACO 30-18 but fell to Tri-County/Montezuma 42-18.
In the win over WACO, the Comets received a pin from Josh Ramos at 182 pounds as well as four forfeits. Drayton Hamm (106), Ryan Cale (113), Patrick Lind (145) and Kayvin Johnson (152) all earned forfeits for Cardinal.
Both juniors Cale and Ramos became double-winners with a pair of wins vs. Tri-County/Montezuma. The 182-pound Ramos pinned Tri-County’s Jacob Weber in 2:43, while Cale won by fall in 5:01 against Mason Garber. Tommy Rice won by forfeit at 152 pounds.
The Comets have a week off but return to the mat next Tuesday at a quadrangular at Tri-County.
