Cardinal teams visit Holy Trinity
FORT MADISON — Lindsay Moore, Danae Moses and Delaney Ridgway scored all but five of the Comets’ points en route to a 55-50 overtime victory over Holy Trinity in Fort Madison.
Moore led the Comets with 18 points on 12 of 16 free throw shooting, Moses had 17 points, and Ridgway totaled 15 points and a team-high seven boards.
The Comets, who trailed 24-20 at halftime, came within one point at the end of the third quarter and sent the game into overtime at 43-all. From there, the visiting Comets outscored Holy Trinity 12-7 to claim their fifth win of the season.
Jessie McElderry and Morgan Honomichl scored two points apiece, and Lexi Fullenkamp added one to contribute to the Comets’ final score.
Cardinal (5-5), winners of its last three games, will take a trip to Danville Friday.
Comet boys downed
The Cardinal boys’ basketball team dropped an 84-50 road game to Holy Trinity on Tuesday.
Holy Trinity built a 24-13 advantage after one quarter and led 45-27 at the half.
Sophomore Kaleb Durflinger led the Comets with nine points on 4 of 6 shooting, while seniors Cody Carter and Jonathan Pedersen scored seven points each.
Cardinal senior Dakota Showman and freshman Sam Pedersen dropped in six points apiece, and junior Conner McElderry netted five points with a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Comets (4-4) wrap up 2012 with an away game Friday at Class 1A top-ranked Danville.
