Cardinal, Van Buren football teams look to finish on top
There will be no playoffs for Cardinal and Van Buren this season, but both squads have an opportunity to go out winners in their respective season finales Friday.
Both teams also will be playing at their home stadiums, with Cardinal set to host West Branch (6-2) and Van Buren taking on Danville (3-5).
West Branch enters Friday’s game in Eldon having won its last four contests after falling to Iowa City Regina and Wilton at midseason. They have averaged 300 yards on the ground and just a little more than 62 yards through the air per game in 2012.
Danville, on the other hand, is coming off a pair of lopsided losses to Highland and Lone Tree. The Bears are a pass-first team that has gained about 166 passing yards and 86 rushing yards per game.
Kickoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.
