Cardinal wins close game over DanvilleThe Comets score 14 points in fourth quarter
Cardinal was able to put a notch in the win column Friday when it defeated Danville by the score of 27-20.
Cardinal (1-1) was down 20-13 entering the fourth quarter. Brandon Potts scored a 1-yard touchdown that tied the game and Tyler Albert scored on an 8-yard run with two minutes to go that gave the Comets a 27-20 lead.
Danville (1-1) let the game slip through its fingers in the second half. Running back Grant Samples ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
Cardinal has been competitive in each of its first two games. Albert ran for 166 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Nathan Yeager ran for 88 yards of his own. Mike Ownings had 16 yards.
Defensively Cardinal was assisted by four Danville interceptions. Blake Wright had two of the picks and Potts had another.
Danville’s Austin Malicki caught the interception that has thrown by Cardinal quarterback Tyler Batterson.
The Comets travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg on Friday.
