Central Lee silences Pekin bats Wednesday
PACKWOOD — The Pekin softball team’s offense stalled in a 2-1 loss to Central Lee in a non-conference game Wednesday in Packwood.
“Unbelievable. We stunk it up last night from the plate,” said Pekin head coach Bryan Marlay. “It was not a good night for the Panthers.”
Pekin collected just four hits and struck out 11 times vs. Central Lee pitcher Jordan Greenfield. Pekin senior Maleaha Earnest scored the home team’s one run in the fifth inning. Maranda Baker, another senior, totaled two of Pekin’s four hits. Junior Tiana Slaney and freshman Sloan Reighard had one base knock each.
Senior Cheyann Lankford pitched a solid seven-inning game for Pekin, giving up one earned run on seven hits. She struck out three Lady Hawks.
Despite the low-scoring loss, Marlay took a few positives away from the contest.
“Cheyann did a nice job keeping the ball around the strike zone, and we played pretty good defense even though we gave up three errors,” he said.
The 8-5 Panthers continue their homestand today with an SEISC North Division game vs. Wapello.
