Chamber Singers set spring concerts: ‘Love, Light & Life’
The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will perform its spring concerts, “Love, Light, & Life,” at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield.
The musical themes of this year’s program are love for one another, the light of divine love and life’s many blessings.
The timeless joys of romantic love blossom across the centuries, from the 1440s choral works of John Dunstable to 1920s Irish ballads to the 1960s songs of Simon and Garfunkel. Rich and passionate songs of praise from Elizabethan England, Spain and the Netherlands ring out from master composers Campion, Tallis, Victoria and Sweelinck. And festive songs from the northern to the southern hemispheres, from the British Isles to the Caribbean and Africa, celebrate the universal challenges and humor of day-to-day living.
From Ireland and England to America and Argentina, these themes also will be featured in the instrumental music performed by Karen Aoki on flute, Lise Marcell on piano, Donna Nelson on cello and Francis Thicke on trumpet.
“Each season, I am so grateful for the hard work, commitment to artistry, and adventurous spirit of our wonderful singers,” said Elaine Reding, director of the Chamber Singers. “We are very fortunate that such fine instrumentalists are joining these talented singers this year for a beautiful and fun concert that the community is sure to enjoy.”
Free-will donations will be appreciated.
