Comet girls fall in finale

BLOOMFIELD — The Davis County girls made more than half their field goal attempts en route to a 65-39 victory over Cardinal in both teams’ final regular season game of the winter Monday.

The host Mustangs shot 29-for-57 from the field on their way to a 20-9 first quarter lead and 37-18 advantage by halftime. Junior Rylee Eakins led Davis County on the offensive end with 17 points.

Lindsay Moore’s 19 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists paced the Comets, who shot 14-for-52 as a team.

Cardinal’s Danae Moses finished with six points on two 3s, and Jessie McElderry had five points and seven boards. Delaney Ridgway scored four points to go with 11 rebounds, while Lexi Fullenkamp and Morgan Honomichl had two steals each.

Despite being out-scored in all four quarters, the Comets snagged 14 steals compared to eight for the Mustangs.

Cardinal concludes the regular season with an 8-13 record overall. They kick off the first round of the postseason Saturday at Eddyville-Blakesburg (13-7).
