Comets blast West Burlington

ELDON — Wins have been coming in bunches for the Cardinal boys’ basketball team, which topped West Burlington 58-51 on Saturday for its third straight victory.

Dakota Showman scored 16 points and Cody Carter added 14 for the Comets, who have a 9-5 record overall this winter. Both Showman and Carter hit three treys apiece in the victory.

Also for Cardinal, sophomore Cody Streeby scored seven points, while Charlie Rachford and Jonathan Pedersen added six points each. Brandon Potts finished with five points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots; and Kaleb Durflinger had four points to go along with six rebounds.

Cardinal is back in action today at Van Buren.

Girls run away with ‘W’

ELDON — The Cardinal girls held West Burlington to under 10 points in the first and last quarters of a 61-41 victory vs. West Burlington Saturday.

The Comets had 14 steals to go with a 46-31 rebound advantage over the visiting Falcons.

Senior Lindsay Moore scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while freshman Delaney Ridgway finished with 14 points and 15 boards. Jessie McElderry had 11 points and Lexi Fullenkamp scored eight.

The double-digit win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Comets, who are currently 6-9 on the year.

The Comets return to the hardwood today at Van Buren.
