Comets split over weekend in baseball action
ELDON — Cardinal split a pair of games in a home tournament Saturday in Eldon, falling to Davis County 16-2 and defeating Tri-County 13-4.
Sophomore Taylor Blunt picked up the win vs. Tri-County as the host Comets took advantage of some wild pitching en route to the nine-run victory. Blunt tossed six innings of four-run ball, allowing five hits and three walks while fanning six. Kaleb Durflinger, another sophomore, allowed no runs and one hit in an inning of relief.
The Comets’ Charlie Rachford paced the 13-hit offense with two hits, including a triple, and three runs. Tyler Albert tallied two hits, two runs and two steals; Cole Campbell scored twice with three stolen bases; and Conner McElderry went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Brennon Elder, Cody Streeby, Dakota Showman and Brandon Eklofe also scored once vs. Tri-County.
In the loss to Davis County, Elder was hit with nine earned runs in two innings to take the loss. Showman allowed six runs — none earned — in two innings, and McElderry kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard in a final inning of relief.
Streeby and Eklofe both plated runs vs. Davis County.
Cardinal (3-2) hosts Central Lee in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South game today.
