Shelby Heston, left, and Samantha Westercamp competed in the Iowa State Fair Cowgirl Queen contest Friday. The contest is judged on 50 percent beauty and 50 percent horsemanship. “ I couldn’t be more proud of these girls,” said Shea Earlywine, Jefferson County 4-H Horse Project leader. “They looked beautiful and rode hard. It was a great experience to be part of such a spectacular event.” Westercamp is the daughter of Ryan and Gina Westercamp of Keosauqua Heston is the daughter of Charles and Krista Heston of Fairfield. Earlywine volunteered to help the girls prepare for the contest and attended as their coach.
