Cultural grants awarded in August
Members of the Fairfield Cultural Alliance Board awarded grants to several local organizations at a reception Aug. 27 at the home of Steve and Marcia Tiffanny
This year, the Fairfield Cultural Alliance received the largest number of submissions for grants since it began offering grants; 12 in total; and the alliance board members decided to divide the total monetary pool among the worthy recipients. None of the organizations got full funding for their projects, but each was helped.
Receiving mini-grants this year were the Carnegie Historical Museum Foundation for brochure updates; the Fairfield Art Association to help purchase canvases for its FAA Member Exhibit; The Shakespeare Ensemble to help pay for expenses for its recent play, “Arms and the Man”; Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk for graphic design expenses; the Sustainable Living Coalition to enhance its self-guided tour of Abundance EcoVillage; the Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau to pay event photographer Werner Elmker; the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center to help fund two shows: MarchFourth Marching Band and Lightwire; Maharishi School to fund expenses for the event Alumni Extravaganza; the Southeast Iowa Blues Society for a new “Blues in Schools” program; the ARC of Jefferson and Nearby Counties to fund a walk/run for Camp Courageous; Military Honors, an organization in conjunction with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to fund an event honoring World War II veterans; and DuoSolo Foundation for New Music for a piano concert by Amir Khosrowpour to be held Sunday in Fairfield.
