Don’t redirect money for tax relief to new gym
To the editor,
In past years we had elected officials, both county and city, who were concerned about living within a budget.
Now their attitude is to promise special interest groups anything they want in the rec center, and then they will think of some way to get the money out of the taxpayer, which in the city’s case did not take too much thinking: just raise property taxes to whatever level it takes to bail us out of our over-spending.
The county officials didn’t think much harder: just take the money from the fund for property tax relief.
Money for tax relief was meant for just that purpose, to help relieve over-taxation by cities, counties and school districts across the state, and now it looks like it’s going to be up to the voters in the unincorporated areas of Jefferson County to try to protect these funds.
The only way we can stop this atrocity is to vote it down again. You must vote and talk with your friends and neighbors. If someone needs help to the polls, do it.
