Donors give 34 pints of blood
The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center mobile unit drew 34 pints of blood Oct. 19 at the Jefferson County Health Center.
According to the blood center, one pint of blood can help save the lives of up to three patients, and one out of every five people entering a hospital will need blood products.
A donor can give blood every eight weeks. Call 800-452-1097 to check on blood drive schedules and plan to give. According to the blood center, giving blood is a safe, simple procedure that takes about an hour to complete. Donors must be at least 16 years old, in good health and weigh 110 pounds or more. A blood donor card or other photo identification is required. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental consent form.
