Dutch oven cook off set June 8
The Jefferson County Conservation Board’s sixth annual Dutch oven cook off is scheduled for June 8 at the Jefferson County Park.
The event is to demonstrate Dutch oven cooking skills for novice and “well seasoned” participants.
Novice participants or teams, which have been competing for two years or less, will be judged in their own category, and will compete for first and second place with dessert and main dish, with prizes of $75 and $50, respectively.
Well-seasoned cooks will compete for firstthrough third place with four categories: dessert, side dish, main dish and bread. The prizes will be $100, $75, and $50 respectively.
The public is invited to attend to watch and visit with the cooks. Cooking begins at 9:30 a.m., with the first round of judging at 11:15 a.m.
Individuals can pay a fee that will allow them to sample the food after initial judging has finished. The fee will be $5 for youth age 13 through adult, $2 for 7-12 year old youth, and $1 for children under 6. Proceeds from the taste testing will benefit the Cedar Creek Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
The awards presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in being a competitor in the Spring Into Supper Dutch Overn Cook Off can call 472-4421.
