Eighth-grade girls earn team title Tuesday

FORT MADISON — Buoyed by wins from Sam Fritz in two events Tuesday, the Fairfield eighth-grade girls rolled to a 127-point total and meet victory in Fort Madison.

Fritz won both the 400 (1:06.24) and open-800 (2:32.41) as the Trojans edged runner-up Mount Pleasant by 10 points. Burlington Edward Stone came in third place with 89 points and Washington was fourth with 71.

The Trojans also received victories from Kenady Waugh in the 100-meter dash (13.02), Ashlyn Elmore in the 1500 (5:48.61) and Kaylee Watson in the discus throw (80’ 8”).

Waugh added a second-place finish in the 200 (31.45), and Kailey Kaska finished second in the high jump (4’ 6”). Mikaela Lunsford scored eight points with a second-place mark of 26-feet, 5-inches in the shot put, and Olivia Hammel topped out at 75-feet, 5-inches in the discus to place second.

Fairfield’s 4x400 of Elmore, Lunsford, Watson and Fritz finished second (4:49), and the 4x100 of Megan Sullivan, Sarah Swanson, Waugh and Brynna Bowman was third (57.82). Sullivan, Watson, Jada Lippincott and Bowman took third in the 4x200 (2:04); Anuja Pharasi, Savannah Kelly, Emily Hanna and Maggie Ferrel finished third in the 4x800 (12:34); and Lippincott, Swanson, Watson and Elmore won bronze in the sprint medley (2:14.13).

 

Seventh-graders finish fourth in team race

Fairfield’s Nicole Buch won the 800-meter run Tuesday to pace the Fairfield seventh-graders to a fourth-place team finish at the Fort Madison Invite.

Buch finished the race in 2:44.43 to account for the Trojans’ one win Tuesday. Fairfield also had five runner-up finishes on its way to a 73-point total. Keokuk finished atop the seven-team field with 144 points and Mount Pleasant came in second with 133.

Fairfield’s Amiah Neff finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.09, and she also led off the second-place 4x100 (58.18), which included Aluna Olaniyi, Amanda Carminhato and Ashtyn Drish.

Taylor Myers, Sophie Allen, Drish and Olaniyi finished second in the 4x200 (2:04.61), the sprint medley of Myers, Carminhato, Claire Christensen and Drish was second (2:14.94) and the distance medley of Olaniyi, Allen, Ella Pollet and Buch added on a runner-up time of 5:14.

Also for Fairfield, Pollet, Kelly Peterson, Hailey Patrick and Katrina Cecchini had a third-place finish in the 4x800 (14:08).

The Trojans return to Fort Madison for the conference meet Monday.
