Eighth grade girls play against Mt. Pleasant at home
The Fairfield eighth grade girls’ basketball team played Thursday against Mt. Pleasant at Fairfield Middle School.
The A team lost 37-22. The Trojans fell behind 14-1 after the first quarter, but were able to play evenly with the Panthers the rest of the way.
“We went to a zone defense at halftime, which really slowed them down,” Fairfield coach Derek Philips said. “With our shots just not falling, we had just put ourselves in too far of a hole in the first half to make a comeback. We now know what we need to do against them next Tuesday.”
Ashtyn Drish scored 10 points to lead Fairfield. Taylor Myers scored four. Alie Kensett and Amiah Neff both scored three points.
The B team won 16-8. Katrina Cecchini scored six points. Amanda Carminhato and Ashley Pool each put in four points. Lynsey Finney scored two points.
“Our girls did a nice job tonight of pushing the ball but not making poor passes,” Philips said.
The Trojans play tonight in Washington.
