Comets upend Bears

DANVILLE — The Comet offense continued to hit on all cylinders and the defense looked much improved Tuesday as it claimed an 8-1 road win over Danville.

“Our defense was much improved tonight. Conner [McElderry] was around the plate all night, and our defense made some plays. It’s a good way to start the season,” said Cardinal head coach Tom Hallgren.

Brennon Elder whacked an inside-the-park grand slam, his second in two games, and Kyle Kent drove in the other four runs on a trio of doubles.

Also for the Comets, Brandon Eklofe went 1-for-2 and scored two runs and Cole Campbell finished with one RBI. Dakota Showman, Charlie Rachford and Chase Courtney all contributed singles.

McElderry allowed four hits and fanned four to pick up the win.

Cardinal (2-0) hosts rival Van Buren on Friday.
