Elementary schools earn awards
Both Libertyville and Washington elementary schools has received the PBIS Honor School Award from the Iowa Department of Education. The PBIS Honor School Award recognizes Libertyville and Washington elementary schools for their great effort, enthusiasm and commitment that has brought the schools to this level of implementation of schoolwide PBIS.
Schoolwide PBIS is the Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports program. For more information on what PBIS is, check the website www.fairfieldsfuture.org/vnews/display.v/SEC/Libertyville%20Elementary%7CPBIS.
To receive this recognition, schools must show evidence that certain criteria were met. Specific criteria included having a representative, school-based leadership team that developed the necessary tools and products, and have rolled out their PBIS plan to students, staff and families.
Honor schools teach and acknowledge behavioral expectations and institute consequences for behaviors not consistent with the expectations. In addition, honor schools use data to make decisions and use data to update action plans to enhance implementation.
The schools’ products, data and action plans for future steps to implementation have been reviewed and the award was endorsed by the Area Education Agency PBIS coordinator and the PBIS Iowa Leadership Team.
Officials at both Libertyville and Washington schools look forward to continued success with their PBIS program, staff and students.
