Enchanted Forest Walk opens Thursday evening in Cantril
The Villages of Van Buren will be celebrating the Christmas season beginning the end of this week and continuing throughout the month of December.
The season kicks off Thursday evening, with the annual Enchanted Forest Walk in Waubonsie Park in Cantril.
Visitors can take a self-guided stroll along the 1-mile graveled trail through the 23-acre park decorated with holiday lights and displays; a golf cart is available by request. The trail includes three covered bridges around a large pond.
The Enchanted Forest Walk is open for visitors from 5-8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The display is open through Dec. 31.

More holiday events also are planned in Cantril.
A home lighting contest is planned. Judging will be 6-9 p.m. Dec. 15.
Run, Run Rudolph, a 5K walk/run is set Dec. 17 on the Waubonsie Trail in the park. Registration is at 4:30 p.m., and the run strats at 5 p.m.
For a guaranteed same-day Run, Run Rudolph T-shirt, preregister by Dec. 2. Registration is $20 for adults and $13 for youth.

Following the 5K, a lighted Christmas parade and soup supper are planned.
The parade through downtown Cantril starts at 6 p.m.
The soup supper will be served 6-7:30 p.m. at the Cantril Fire Station for a free will donation.
Santa will visit during the soup supper, and the winner of the home lighting contest will be announced during the soup supper.

Christmas in Keosauqua also will get underway Saturday.
Breakfast and Photos with Santa is planned from 9 a.m. to noon at Libertyville Savings Bank.
A drawing for a Christmas bear will be held, and other children’e activities are planned.
